SPECIAL COMMUNIQUE TO EMPLOYERS
Obtaining approval from the Commissioner General of Labour to Employ Females at Night in Industrial Undertakings –
In a recent Press Release, the Commissioner General of Labour has communicated the following in relation to the administrative requirement of having to obtain his prior permission, once every six (6) months, to employ females at night in Industrial Undertakings.
1. For the purpose of controlling the spread of the Covid – 19 pandemic and to ensure convenience to employers in the long term, the Department of Labour has introduced an online mechanism to obtain approval for employing females at night in Industrial Undertakings, with effect from 1st June 2020.
2. Accordingly, employers can submit their applications for approval through the official website of the Department of Labour (http://www.labourdept.gov.lk) and in view of the restrictions imposed on movement of individuals at present, the service will only be available through the online mechanism.
3. The validity period of the approvals that expired on 1st September 2020, has been extended to 31st December 2020.
4. Arrangements have been made for EFC members to seek further clarifications and / or assistance in this regard from the Secretariat as set out in our latest circular No. 83 of 2020.
